Medical groups to start tracking hip success rates
Two new databases are created to track the success rates of artificial hips and knees. The databases are organized by the orthopedic industry and the federal government.
“We’ve been doing a huge experiment and no one’s been keeping track of the data,” said William Maloney, vice chairman of the American Joint Replacement Registry and professor of orthopedic surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
The Bloomberg Businessweek article states that Johnson & Johnson has committed $280 million to the Depuy hip recalls.
